NELSON REPERTORY THEATRE

FORTNIGHTLY READING “They Came to a City” by J. B. Priestley was the play chosen by the Repertory Club for its fortnightly reading. This is a modern work in which J. B. Priestley deals in an interesting manner with problems which every thinking person must face if he wishes to help in reconstructing the world into a place of “Peace on Earth—Goodwill toward men.” Nine people, all dissimilar, find themselves in a Utopian city. These characters were portrayed very efficiently by members of the Repertory Club and the large audience enjoyed hearing how each character reacted to his chance of a life of useful happiness. The cast was as follows: Alice Foster, Mrs D. Fowler; Philippa Loxfield, Miss M. Lefeaux; Dorothy Stritton, Mrs E. B. McKenzie: Mrs Batley, Miss E. M. Moore; Lady Loxfield, Mrs P. R. Parker; Joe Dinmore, Mr F. J. Easther; Sir George Gedney, Mr H. S. Leggatt; Malcolm Stritton. Mr J. W. Russell; Cudworth, Mr W. Simm. The reading was arranged by Miss Netta Ching.
