ELECTRICITY FOR CAMPERS

PLUG-IN SYSTEM AT TAHUNA IMMEDIATE INSTALLATION URGED AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION’S INTEREST The immediate installation of an electric plug-in system for caravans at the Tahuna camping grounds was strongly advocated by Mr E. Fleming at a meeting of the Automobile Association (Nelson) last evening and it was resolved that the Tahuna Sands Association be urged to have the work undertaken as soon as possible. The Tahuna Sands Association in a letter to the Automobile Association had stated that the installation of an electric plug-in system at the camp was included in the list of its proposed works but it did not think this particular project would be carried out until next year. Mr Fleming said he thought that if the camp was to be made attractive to motorists an electric plug-in system was a necessity and he considered it should be installed immediately if Tahuna was to compare favourably with other similar camps in New Zealand. Mr E. A. Bone, a member of the Tahuna Sands Association said that it had been intended to proceed with the 1 installation, but the association had been advised by the Waimea Electric Power Board that no transformer was available. In reply Mr Fleming stated that transformers were now on the market, and on his motion it was resolved to urge the*Tahuna Sands Association to expedite the installation of the system.

It was also decided on Mr F len.ing’s suggestion that the questions of 1 universal plug for use in such systems all over the Dominion, and of a uniform scale of charges for motorists for the use of electricity in . all camping grounds be brought up for discussion by the association’s delegates at the forthcoming meeting of the S.I.M.U. The chairman, Mr C. M. Rout, presided at the meeting and other members present were: Messrs F. Smallbone. C. A. Hunter, A. G. Betts. W. R. Grace, H. Fraser, E. A. Bone. F. W. Lindup, E. J. Champtaloup. B. Bishop, H. J. Savage. J. G. Ingram. E. Fleming and E. • R. Neale (secretary). NEW MEMBERS ELECTED The following new members were elected to the association:— Mrs M. E. Bruce. R. Walker (Wakefield). E. H. Wilson. R. C. Woodley (Upper Moutere). PARKED CARS OBSCURE VISION It was resolved to request the Nelson City Council to alter the boundary of the parking space in Trafalgar Square in order to prevent cars being parked so close to the pedestrian crossing from the Church Hill to Trafalgar street. It was reported that under the present arrangement cars were parked so close to the crossing that pedestrians were unable to see an approaching car until they were well cut on to the road.
