WORLD FOOD SHORTAGE

The responsibility of New Zealand to assist in meeting the world food shortage was emphasised by Mr G. H. Grigg. chairman of the Meat Producers’ Board at the annual meeting of the electoral committee in Wellington yesterday. An increase in the actual number of carcases handled along with an improvement in average weights last year together represented an increased export tonnage of meat of approximately 34.000 tons which was a substantial extra contribution to Britain’s food supply, while at the same time meeting our obligations to Allied forces in the Pacific. The cool s‘ore position this season could be described as most satisfactory.
