IMPROVEMENT SOON Wellington, This Day. Situation: A cold jront is crossing the Dominion from the west and an anti-cyclone is over New South Wales. Forecast to 5 p.m. Sunday: Winds, soon turning; west or southwest and decreasing. Weather soon improving and becoming fair with isolated showers in the ranges. Temperatures becoming cooler. Risk of frosts to-night. Outlook fine.

Alter a fine day yesterday when the bright sunshine totalled 9 hours 45 minutes, rain set in during the night and nroduced ground conditions which will*again rul- out week-end gardening operations. The rainfall lid to 9.30 o’clock this morning was .58 of an inch, bringing the total for the year to date to 34.55 inches. Unusually heavy rain fell in the city until about 10.30 a.m. to-day, when there was some minor flooding caused by the overflow of stormwater drains. A gusty easterly wind last night changed to a light north-westerly early this morning and later went round to the north-east. There were mild temperatures last night and today.
