SERVICE IN ITALY
AWARDS TO NELSONIANS Captain Charles Gatenby. Upper Moutere. has been made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empir <M.B.E.), for service in Italy, covering mainly operations from Ist May. 1944. to August. 1944. Captain Gatenby embarked for the Middle East in 1940. He was a prisoner ot war in Italy from December, 1941. to February. 1944. when he escaped from : captivity. He returned to New Zealand last November, and has since resumed civil life. j Major (now acting Lieut.-Colonel) R. G. Stringer, Nelson, has been men- ' tioned in Dispatches for service in ! Italy. Captain (now Major) W. A. G. Washbourn. Nelson, has also been mentioned in Dispatches for service in Italy.
