REPORT ACCEPTED

STATEMENT BY MINISTER In a statement made by the Minister of Marketing (Mr Roberts) he announced the New Zealand Government’s acceptance of the London Conference report. “The stocks of wool will in future be held bv the United Kingdom and Dominion Governments in partnership and a joint organisation will be formed to take charge of the marketing of old wool and to support the marketing of current clips during the c.isposal of the surplus,” said the Min. ister. “It is intended that as soon as conditions permit current clips shall be offered at auction as before the war and that in addition the joint organisation will offer wool from stock at the auctions with the object of maximising total sales and. turning over stock. AH wool will b e offered subject to minimum reserve prices and the joint organisation will take Lip such new wool as i s not sold at or above these prices. ‘‘lt is recognised that the trend of wool prices must move in accordance with general world conditions and the need to expand consumption. At the same time wide price fluctuations will be avoided by the joint measures of adequate offerings and reserve prices. The foiir Governments will share the capital costs of the wool held by th e joint organisation and of new purchase by it and the cost of holding and marketin'* the wool in stock and will share the ultimate profit or loss. For the 1945-46 season conditions will not allow of the restoration of normal marketing by the growers- and the wool clips of the three Dominions will be taken up in the same manner as during the war period.” WOOL BOARD’S ACTION ENDORSED Wellington, This Day. At a meeting of the New Zealand Wool Board this week proposals were submitted to the board regarding the extension of the activities of the International Wool Secretariat in the United States and the plan as outlined was agreed to. The board met the Electoral College on the 28th August and was able to submit a plan for the disposal of surplus wool and the control of the new clips as agreed to at the London Conference. A lengthy discussion ensued and the college, alter delegates had answered questions, endorsed the actions taken by the board.—P.A.
