MILK SUPPLIES

ITo the Editor] Sir —I was glad to see the comments of “Fresh Milk” concerning the milk position which has been forced upon us during the war years; and I support him in his request that our “Big Three ’ might make some move in the matter and “get things done.”! I. personally, prefer whole milk to treated milk. Treated milk may make poor or stale milk safer but. treatment. of poor, or stale milk will not make :t good milk. Good miik is that pure and unadulterated article produced by healthy cows which have bee n fed on healthy feed and balanced diet, and the cows milked and the milk handled under hygienic conditions. The milk should then be delivered for consumption as expeditiously as possible. Milk is our most important food, and it should be the duty and pride of our local bodies—not our Parliamentarians to see that it is procured from the cows and delivered to us under conditions such as do pertain in our dairy factories. The Tahunanui Town Board is to be commended for having given consideration to this important matter; and per haps we may look to this small body to see that, in the near future, we shall again have the choice of buying untreated or pasteurised milk from either the recently created organisation or from our old milk vendor. I venture to say that the best vote on the subject would be to allow the old vendors of untreated milk to compete for one month, with the treated milk. Are we just going to take what is handed out to us. now the war is over; or are we not going to demand that the choice be given back to us? I am. etc., UNTREATED MILK Nelson 27th August.
