CONTROL OF SHANGHAI

CHINESE TAKE OVER (Rec. 10.45 a.m.) London, Aug. 29. Government representatives from Chungking have already taken over control of the customs, post office. Central Press Service (the defunct Nanking Puppet Government’s propaganda organ) and various trade and labour union headquarters, says Reuter’s Shanghai correspondent. Chinese troops who marched in last Saturday belong to a body known as the National Salvation Army. They are not members of the occupation forces which are due shortly but form the vanguard to assist to maintain order in the transitional stage. All is quiet in Shanghai but disturbances are reported at the port of Ninfpo, south of Shanghai, following infiltration by Chinese Communist troops. Communications between Shanghai and Ningpo have been interrupted.
