MAHANA FRUITGROWERS

MEETING of association The annual meeting of the Mahana Fruitgrowers’ Association Ltd. was held in the school. Mr Len. Hore occupied the chair. In a comprehensive report of the year’s work Mr Hor e referred feelingly to the loss on active service of Kay. Wells, Frank Creasy, Vic. Boyd and Lloyd Stuchbery. Several of the young men of the district had already returned and had taken up orchards of their own and he wished them every success. Members had joined in several working bees to assist some of these returned men with their work and this had been appreciated as was shown in letters of thanks received. It was hoped to assist others as required in like manner. Mr J. A. Fraser was thanked for his able work on the Uneconomic Orchard Investigation Committee and Mr F. Archer for his activities as representative on the Nelson Fruit Advisory Committee. The election of officers resulted as follows: President: Mr L. Hore (reelected); vice-presidents, Messrs J. Higgs and A. A. Brown; secretary, Mr R. Evans; committee, Messrs Hill, R. Little, K. McFarlane and G. M. Fraser; auditors, Messrs J. A. Fraser and W. P. Salmond. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring officers. Following the annual meeting, Mr F. Archer, one of the Nelson delegates to the Dominion Fruitgrowers’ Conference, reported fully on the discussions and decisions of conference on the many remits submitted. He was accorded a vote of thanks.
