DISTRESS IN CHINA
MORE RELIEF NEEDED APPEAL TO NEW ZEALAND Washington, August 27. UNRRA has asked New Zealand and Australia to increase their allocations of relief supplies for China, particularly food, medical supplies, clothing, wool, steel rails, construction machinery and emergency housing supplies, says the “New York Times” Washington correspondent. This will be followed by shipments of seeds and agricultural hand tools to permit China to feed herself as rapidly as possible. UNRRA is also expected to obtain draught and dairy animals from New Zealand and Australia to help build up herds ravaged by the war. New Zealand has so far contributed 8,476,000 dollars to UNRRA, and Australia 38.400.000 dollars.
