After 17 years at Parliament House Miss H. D. Montague is relinquishing her position in the private secretarial corps. She was the first woman private secretary, joining the staff of the late Mr Coates in 1928. She was with him at the time of his death, and when Mr Perry was appointed to succeed him as a member of the War Cabinet she remained as his private secretary. A function was held on Friday afternoon in Mr Adam Hamilton's room at which tributes were paid to Miss Montague’s ability, knowledge of political matters and her loyalty. She was presented with a cheque.—Parliamentary Reporter. Lieut. Col. F. W. Huggins, representative of the British Government in the i Condominium of Canton and Enderbury j Phoenix Group, and Deputy-Commis-sioner for the Western Pacific, has reached England by air. The journey was accomplished in 51 flying hours via the United States of America and Canada. He is to spend a short period in England on leave. Three secondary school inspectors Messrs J. L. Cameron, A. M. Nicholson and F. R. G. Aitken arrived in Nelson on Friday and arc at present visiting the Boys' College.
