MALICIOUS FIRE ALARM

WOMAN STRUCK BY FIRE ENGINE Wellington, This Day. A woman cyclist was serioualy iajured in Lower Hutt on Saturday evening when she was struck by « fire engine travelling in rcs]Kinsc to a malicious' falae alarm. She was Mrs. M. P.’ Finlayaoa* 73 Bell Road. Lower Hutt. and she received a fractured right leg, fractured! knee cap, fractured ribs, a possible fractured pelvis, abdominal injuries, abrasions to her face and hands, concussion and shock. She was admitted to lift Lower Hutt hospital in a serious condition. but had improved last night. The false alarm was given by a man who rang the main Lower Hutt Fire Brigade at about 5 p.m. He said there wtua a big house fire at number 13 Broca Street. Immediately * maehiue was dispatched and another was sent from th* Hutt Park fire station. It was this machine tha hit Mrs. Finlayaon at tba corner of Randwick Road and Ludlam Orescent. Visibility was poor at the time and heavy rain was falling. Mrs. Finlayson was riding a bicycle and wan knocked over with some force. When the fire engines reached 13 Breen Street they found it was an empty section and there was no sign of a fire. The number of malicious false alarm! in the Hutt Valley recently has been causing the fire brigade some concern. Ijnst week a youth was fined £7/10/- in the Lowe- Hutt Magistrates’ Court for wilfully giving a false alarm from a street box.
