NURSES AND MIDWIVES’ BILL
MAINLY A CONSOLIDATING MEASURE (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, July 28. “This is mainly a consolidating measure, but in addition there are new provisions made for the training and registration of male nurses,” said the Minister of Health (Mr Nordmeyer) in the House of Representatives after the Nurses and Midwives’ Bill had been introduced- He added that those provisions constituted the main amend- , m ent of the existing law, although there were a number of minor amendments which he would explain during the second reading of the Bill. A register is to be kept of male nurses who are required to have certain qualifications which are set out in the Bill. The Nurses and Midwives’ Board may approve as a training school for such nurses any hospital ov other institution controlled or maintained by any department of State, any hospital board, or any private charitable institution. The Bill was read a first time.
