AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION 4Sth ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING INCREASE IN SUBSCRIPTIONS The fortieth annual general meeting of the Automobile Association (Nelson) was held in the Ritz last night with Mr C. M. Rout, president, in th« chair. In the course of the annual report it was stated: “The cessation of war in Europe will probably have immediate repercussions on the motor trade and motoring generally. It should result in an immediate increase in the petrol ration and a measure of relief in th* tyre position, although this is likely to be very difficult for some time to come. The financial position is very sound, and the association is in a good position to meet the considerable additional expenditure which will be necessary with a return to near normal in motoring matters. Considerable outlay will probably be necessary on camping grounds (old and new), patrol car, signs and possibly new quarters. Subscription revenue produced £1939 against £1799 in the previous year, and £1664 in 1943. The calls on the “Get Yoj Home Road Service,” despite petrol shortages, continue to a remarkable degree, possibly affected to some extent by the fact that most cars on the road a. . now no longer new. This year 84 members received roadside assistance (exclusive of our own Patrol Officer’s work) at a cost to their association of £74, against £54 the previous year. Since the inauguration of the scheme, 1056 members have received roadside assistance, r.t a cost to the association of £750.” Mr E. Fleming said he would like the association to consider giving a mere liberal “Get-You-Home” service. He thought it could do more for its members. The S.I.M.U. Insurance Association had given the Nelson Association £270 and it had spent only £74 on the “Get-You-Home” service. The chairman pointed out that the contribution was for the patrol service. The S.I.M.U. had considered the matter and the general feeling was against any extension of the free road service. The Nelson association could not on ita own extend the service without breaking faith. The Nelson Association could rcommend an increase in a remit tr the S.I.M.U. The report and statement of accounts adopted.
