June 10 Of mere than 700 German U-boats estimated to ha/e been slink during the war. 462 were sunk by British forces or Allied* forces operating With the British ICO were sunk by R.A.F. Bomber Command and mines, and 151 were sunk by the United States or Allied forces operating with the United States forces. Of the 462 sunk by British forces. 205 i were sunk by ships. 179 J by shorebased aircraft, four, jointly by shipborne and carrier-borne aircraft, 25 by submarines, and eight by bombing rads on U-boats afloat in port. The total of U-boats sunk by all British. United States and Allied aircraft was 224.
