Mr F. A. Clarke, who has been associated with the Auckland “Star” for 48 years, recently retired from the position of rfianaging-editor. Mr E. V. Dumbleton will succeed him in that position. The appointment of Mr D. M. E. Merry, Instructor in Agriculture. Nelson, to a non-elective seat on the Nelson Catchment Board has been gazetted. He takes the place of Mr D. R. Wilkie, who resigned. The appointment is for almost a two-year term. Advice has been received by cable that Flying Officer John Marris. son of Mr and Mrs J. R. Marris, of Tutaki, Murchison, has been awarded the D.F.C. Captain Hamish Neale, son of Mrs and the late Mr Thomas Neale, "Wharaema,” Stoke, has now been liberated from a prisoner of war camp in Gern.?.ny. Captain Neale was captured in Greece and taken to Germany, the last prison camp he was known to be in being Stalag 4C. At the annual meeting of the Golden Bay Power BoArd Mr E. H. Nees was re-elected chairman. Mr R. I. Henderson, who has been on the staff of Nelson College for- the past two years, has been appointed to the staff of the Ohura District High School. Taranaki. He will leave Nelson in July. Advice has ben received that Major Harry Low. of the 23 rc. Battalion, has been awarded the Military Cross for gallantry in Italy. Captain Donald Kerr, who is at present attending a special course in England, was recently presented with his Military Cross at an investiture held at Buckingham Palace.
