ONE BIG HEAVE—ALL TOGETHER!

ONLY five days remain for the Nelson district to lend about £170,000 if we are not to default in the 1945 Victory Loan campaign. Most of this now must come from the transfer of Post Office Savings Bank deposits to National Savings, a process which makes the money available for the conduct of the war and returns the investor at least half a per cent more interest. Some districts are well over the 80 per cent of quota mark but Nelson stands at 67. Among the sub-districts Richmond leads with over threequarters of its quota. Others are not far behind yet some are scarcely more than half-way and moving very slowly—too slowly to reach the objective by Saturday next. It is no use trying ta excuse ourselves by saying that, after all, it doesn’t matter much if Nelson does not fill its loan quota. Full support of. the loan is a patriotic duty and in none of these obligations since the war began has Nelson so far defaulted. To do so now would tarnish a reputation and suggest to other provinces that we cannot last the distance. Without question the money to fill Nelson’s quota is in the district. Our Post Office deposits alone stand at over £2,000,000, a figure higher than they have ever been in our century of history as a province,. Where we lag is in action. For the final blow in the war against Germany Mr Churchill’s exhortation was: “One big heave, all together!” It worked. In order that: this district shall not fail over the last, lap of the loan campaign Nelsonians.; want to make that heave this weell and the sooner the better.
