DULL GAME AT RICHMOND

FIRST WIN FOR CELTIC Celtic seniors gained their first win when they beat Waimea by 5 points to 3at Richmond. The game was a very tame and uninspiring affair. Neither set of backs had any combination and the forward play was mostly of that scrambling, ragged type which appeared to have little purpose about it, and on three or four occasions the ball was allowed to roll slowly from one side of the scrum and out the other side without one front r* w foot attempting to trap it. Af‘er 25 minutes’ play,Challies scored a try for Waimea after a forward, rush and about three minutes later Crossan scored a try for Celtic. Westrupp converting. While tiis form lasted Challies was by far the best forward on the ground. The only back who made an impression was Crossan, a solid player with tons of speed, safe hands, a strong kick and a resourcefulness which was a pleasure to watch. There was that touch of class about his play which might well place him in the representative side at second five-eighths or in the threequarter \me. Haycock gave a sound display at full back. Waimea were without F. Holland, K. Martin, G. Max, and Springer. Waimea: B. Haycock; P. Johnston, C. Vowless, G .Croucher; M. O’Connor, M. McDowell (capt.). M. Fowler; W. McKenzie, F. Sigglekow, G. Reay, P. Hawke, N. Challies, M. Webby, G. Smith, J. Blackbee. Celtic: B. Morrison; C. Clifford, T. Henderson, E. Reedy; G. Burns, L. Crossan: A. Gargiulo; R. Phillips, D. Westrupp. E. Stills, T.
