TO BE TRIED AS TRAITORS

BRITISH CIVILIANS WHO AIDED GERMANY London, June 7. Six renegades who joined the “British Free Corps” in Germany will be tried as traitors. They are now prisoners at British Army headquarters awaiting transport to Britain. Earlier reports that they were British prisoners of war who had volunteered to fight against the Russians are now denied. They are said to be British civilians who living in Germany before the war. They were Wearing German SS uniforms with shoulder flashes consisting of a small Union Jack and the words “Great Britain.” The number of reputed British subjects alleged to have aided Germany and who have been rounded-up in the British Army zone is now 10. Among them is William Joyce (“Lord Haw Haw”). He is apparently confident that there is no charge the British can prefer against him. The British United Press correspondent quotes him as saying, ‘I have nothing to fear.” Military intelligence officers went to London yesterday after questioning Joyce and submitted a report to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
