ONLY REMAINING HOPE FOR 1 SUCCESS ENEMY GENERAL S OPINION New York. May 23. Tokio radio announced that Lieut.Gen. Tada, the newly-appointed president of the Board of Technology, in his first Press conference, said: “I honestly believe there is no other way of overcoming the present war crisis than improving the technique of suicide planes.” “On a high plateau in Mindanao’s interior only eight miles now separates our forces converging from the north and south.’' says General MacArthur’s communique. Admiral Nimitz’s communique says: “Two small groups of enemy aircraft attacked our forces on Okinawa last evening. One enemy plane was shot down and the remainder were driven off without causing damage. The rains are continuing and heavy mud has limited the movement of ground troops and armoured vehicles in southern Okinawa to-day. SHURI BEING BY-PASSED The United Press of America correspondent on Okinawa reports that the central stronghold of Shuri is being by-passed rapidly as five American divisions push forward on all sectors to crush the remaining Japanese, now numbering fewer than 30.000.
