SUPPLY OF HYDRO POWER

GREATER YJ&UE TO DISTRICT THAN ANTICIPATED

FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS IN POWER BOARD’S OPERATIONS

“The Government supply of hydro electric power which was received on the 6th of June has been of even greater value to the Nelson district than anticipated,” said Mr N. A. Andrews, engineer to the Waimea Electric Power Board, in the report he presented at the board’s annual meeting to-day. “The difficulties of operating a number of mixed stations under overload conditions were rapidly increasing and serious problems would have presented themselves if the date of hydro power had been delayed. The growth of th e Board is now limited only by the availability of appliances, wiring material and equipment, and the capacity of the staff to install it. Little assistance <;an be expected in this direction from private contractors, as they are occupied with city work, and although the turnover in the trading department was doubled last year it should be further developed to a point where there would be little delay in connecting all available appliances, both where new lines can be erected and on the existing reticulation system.”
