MOTUEKA COURT CASES

At a sitting of the Magistrate's Court held at Motueka Mr T. E. Maunsell, S.M.. dealt with the following business. For being in possession of liquor in the vicinity of a dance hall at Riwaka on 17th February, Lake Victor Holyoake, painter. Umukuri, was fined £2, costs 12s. Leonard Trevor Bull, soldier, for unlawfully converting a bicycle to his own use. the property of Norman Fraser, was fined £3, costs 10s. Phillip Ernest Read. Engineer, Richmond. was charged with negligently driving a motor vehicle in Harley’s road on 23rd February. The case was adjourned to a sitting of the Court on 14th June. Ivan Talley, fish merchant Motueka, was proceeded against by the Motueka Borough Council for erecting a building in Parker street within 30 feet of the centre line of Parker street, contrary to the Motueka By-laws 1937, No. 257.' Talley pleaded not guilty and the Magistrate reserved his decision. Two charges were brought against Albert Chang, fruiterer, by the Price Tribunal for failing to display the price per lb. of onions and of other vegetables. Chang was fined 10s, with costs £1 0s 6d in each case.
