FINES IMPOSED BY COURT Several prosecutions were brought by Traffic-Inspector L. R. Stringer before Mr T. E. Maunsell. S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court Percy S. Boyes (Mr J. H. Ralfe) pleaded guilty to exceeding a speed of 30 m.p.h. in Waimea road. Defendant was stated to be driving at 45 m.p.h, at 10.48 p.m. There was no traffic on the road. He was fined £2 and 10s costs. John T W. Davis was charged with driving at over 30 m.p.h. on Wakefield Quay. “These Government cars are inclined to drive too fast. I think Government employees should set an example, considering the effect on tyres and petrol.” commented the inspector. He added that that d;d not just apply to Davis. The Magistrate agreed that departmental officers should set an example. He fined defendant £2 and 3s costs. Arthur Holmes-Edge admitted riding a motor-cycle along ** footpath in Nile street.
