£9OOO OBJECTIVE
PROVINCIAL PATRIOTIC FUND RADIO-TELEPHONE APPEAL THIS MONTH At a recent meeting of the Nelson City Patriotic Committee it was intimated that the Provincial Patriotic Council had entrusted to the committee the arranging of the forthcoming radio telephone appeal to be held on a day during the present month. A special committee consisting of Messrs A. H. Crawley, J. A. Harley, H. C. Robertson and C. H. Withers has been appointed for the appeal. The objective of the appeal is £9OOO for the provincial district, £3OOO of which will be raised in the Nelson city area.
One feature of the appeal will be the effort of the children. On the last occasion when a radio-telephone appeal was made many children were disappointed in not hearing their names mentioned as their contributions were acknowledged after they had gone to bed. This was due solely to the late hour that the advices of contributions were made. On this occasion special arrangements have been made to have the children’s donations acknowledged over the air at 6 p.m. on the day of the appeal. It is desired that the children’s denations should be dealt with through their respective schools and in this direction it is felt that teachers will give sympathetic assistance to the worthy cLjective.
A meeting has been held with representatives of the country districts’ controlling committees. Unfortunately A number of districts were not represented. It is now hoped that all committees concerned will take early steps to see that donations are made .as soon as possible. The appeal will provide the means of completing each committee’s quota.
