SOLDIERS NEEDED

REPLACEMENT DRAFT MEN HELD ON APPEAL Invercargill, Apl. 5. “The number of men available for the replacement draft so far is a long way short of the number required, and the War Cabinet has directed that a thorough comb-out of all category A men held on appeal must take place immediately,” said Mr D. H. Cockburn, chairman, at a sitting of the Southland Armed Forces Appeal Board to-day. He added that men must be made available for overseas service, even though temporary dislocation of business might result, and even though hardship might be incurred in some cases. Appeal boards could no longer afford to take a lenient view of category A men held on appeal, and they would have to deal with the cases of the .e men in a more stringent manner than in the past. The replacement draft had to be filled urgently, and this could not wait more than a few days.
