STOKE-WAKATU WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The April meeting of the Stoke--Wakatu Women’s Institute was held in the Stoke hall. In the absence of the president (Mrs Vivian) Mrs Squire, vice-president presided and welcomed visitors and members. Owing to many members being still engaged on seasonal work and a rather wet afternoon the attendance was small. A cake guessing competition arranged by Mrs Venner was won by Mrs Wilkinson. Mrs Corby spoke upon the motto “All men are equal but it’s what they are equal to that counts.” The roll call, “Most exciting experience,” caused much amusement and was answered by all present. Mrs Johnston, Council representative, gave an interesting account of a recent council meeting and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Wilks, V. 0., judged the competitions as follows: Best bloom, Mrs Corby 1; Mrs Chaytor 2 (both exhibited dahlias). Knitted garment, Mrs Chaytor 1, Mrs Phipps 2.
