BECOMING FAIR Wellington, This Day. Situation: A weak wedge of high pressure is moving onto the North Island and a trough is moving nerth-eastward over the South Island. Forecast to 5 p.m. Sunday: Light to moderate variable winds; weather becoming fair; temperatures moderate. Further outlook: Fair.

The week-end was ushered in with cloudy and threatening skies, but towards the middle of the morning the sun. made an appearance and although cloud still hung low round the hills there seemed a prospect that the unsettled weather of the past few days was over. Yesterday was again warm, the temperature reaching a maximum of 69 degrees. Only a trace of rain was recorded but the sun shone for only 22 minutes.
