GERMANS EVACUATED FROM FINLAND (Rec. 10.30 a.m.) London. Oct. 1. A Moscow message says Germans evacuated from Finland are making a desperate last stand with the remnants of their Baltic Army on the Estonian Islands of Hiuma and Sarema above th e Gulf of Riga. German units were amsng prisoners on the smaller island of Muhu which was yesterday liberated by the Soviet Estontinian Corps operating on Marshal Govorov’s front. The Germans were surprised at the speed of the Estonian cutters which crossed the five-mile straits and at the storming of the steep sloping coasts. The Germans were either wiped out or surrendered.
