“THE MONEY HAS TO BE FOUND”

APPEAL BY CHAIRMAN OF NELSON PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE The chairman of the Nelson Patriotic Committee (Mr A. H. Crawley) said to-day: “Never have the citizens of Nelson failed to provide for the comforts and amenities for our brave men and women in the fighting forces. The people have given freely of their money and always most graciously. Note they have given their money. For the Victory Loan they are asked to lend some of their money to help hasten the return of those same brave men and women. Nelson has a record for loyalty and patriotism of which she can justly feel proud. I appeal to everyone now not to let us tarnish that record through our failure to subscribe our quota to the loan. Arguments for not lending your money, as ‘Why should the seamen continue to be paid a bonus of so much each week.’ ‘look at the waste that is taking place,’ and ‘the war is over,’ may be right or wrong: but the fact remains, the money has to be found. The war is certainly not over and if New Zealand fails to honour hei obligations and Nelson contributes to that failure it will be to our ( everlasting disgrace. I appeal again to everyone to lend every penny they can to the Loan and so not let our brave men and women down.”
