CALAIS CITADEL CAPTURED

ADVANCE OF CANADIANS (Rec. 10 a.m.) London, Sept. 28. Calais citadel has been captured reports the British United Press correspondent outside Calais. Great explosions from Calais where the Germans are apparently blowing up the harbour rocked the English coast to-day. An observer at Deal said; “Standing on the seafront I felt blast tearing at my clothes.” R.A.F. heavy bombers went out for the third day in succession to attack the German garrison. Canadians on the night of September ; 27 were just over half a mile from Calais harbour area and the built-up section of the town says Reuter’s correspondent in an earlier message. They cleared fort Lepin just west of the harbour and also forts in the Recoubt area south-west of the town. Prisoners now number 2000. Six 14-inch guns with crews were captured intact and the emplacements of three 16-inch cross-Channel guns were overrun. These have been blown up.
