O God. the Father of our Lord and I Saviour Jesus Christ, we beseech Thee for all upon whom war and calamity, sorrow and loss have come. Give them grace to meet their trial in the spirit of our Master, Who. for the joy that was set before Him. endured the cross. In these clays of distress of nations, let not the courage fail of those who defend the right. When all things around are shaken, keep firm their faith in the eternal things that cannot be shaken, and in Thy kingdom that cannot bo moved. Lift up their eyes above all storm and terror to see Thee on Thine eternal throne overruling all good and evil to Thine abiding purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord. This is the fifth observance since it w r as inaugurated by the Federal Council of Churches in America: and there is evidence that, with every year, it is coming to have a deeper significance, and a wider following.
