MIRACULOUS ESCAPE

BABY FLUNG FROM CAR A nine-months-old baby was flung out of the front seat of a car involved in a collision in Blenheim on Saturday afternoon: a few seconds later, none the worse for its experience, it was pulled out of the water and mud of a ditch into which it had plunged (states the "Express.”) The baby's mother, Mrs E. E. North, of Brian Bary street, who was a passenger in her husband’s car. received facial injuries, and was later admitted to the Wairau Hospital suffering from a broken nose. The accident occurred when cars driven by Mr North and Mr F. G. Gaul, of Wakefield. Nelson, met at the inter section of Weld street and Alabama road. The impact was a severe one. and both vehicles suffered extensive damage. Mr North's car, which was struck near the side of the engine, was deflected round to its right into Weld street, and as it skidded and swayed round its left-hand front door hew open. The baby was being nursed by its mother but. before she realised what was happening, it was hurled from her lap out of the car and into the ditch. Mr and Mi's North’s other child, who was also occupying the front seat escaped without injury, being seated between its parents. Mr Gaul was accompanied by a Nelson relative, a boy named Stanley Simpson, who received a slight cut over one eye.
