ENEMY MACHINES SHOT DOWN (Rec. 10.10 a.m.) London, .July 20 When a Spitfire Squadron in the Second Tactical % Air Force shot down six < lemy aircraft in a 15 minutes' fight over Normandy recently, Flying Officer B. F. Col lings (Wanaka) shot clown a Me 109 and Warrant Officer R. C. Harden (Auckland) got a Fwl9o. Their squadron was returning from an armed reconnaissance when they sighted 20 enemy below them. Then, said Col lings, pieces of aircraft were flying about all over the place during he next quarter of an hour. Squadron Leader F. W. Taccn, D.F.C A.F.C. (Hastings) took part in the Beaufighters’ attack on a German convoy off Heligoland on the evening of 18th July, when two ships were left blazing, two more blew up and several escorts damaged by cannon fire and rockets.
