Lower Hint City.—Citizens’ ticket candidates won nearly all the offices for which Lower Hutt city electors voted. Mr Andrews successfully defended the mayoralty, obtaining a majority of 1500 over the Labour candidate. Mr Dowse, an increase of about 300 on the.majority he had over his previous Labour opponent. Mr H. V Horlor. Palmerston North.—The marked preference shown in the metropolitan centres for the Citizens ticket was also reflected in the voting in the provincial cities and boroughs In Palmerston North where the sitting mayor. Mr A. E. Mansford. was returned unopposed, only Citizens representatives were elected to the city council. Wanganui.—ln Wanganui the Labour mayor. Mr W. J Rogers, retained office. but he will preside over a Citizens’ council. Mr Rogers gained 5647 votes against Mr G. J. Adams, the Citizens’ candidate, who had 4710 votes Masterton. Mayoralty.- William Kemp (Citizens), with 2271 votes beat John Robertson (Labour), 1733. Gisborne.—Mayoralty : N. H. Bull (Citizens), with 3109 votes, beat J H. Hall (Labour) 2549. He will preside over a Citizens’ council. Napier.—Mayoralty.- T. W. Hercock (Independent), sitting mayor, with 4392 votes beat A E Armstrong (Labour) 1938. Timaru.—The mayoralty resulted as follows: A. E. S. Hanan (retiring mayor), 5085; P. B. Foote (deputy - mayor). 1180; A. S. Kinsman. 467. Geraldine.—D. C. McKechnie, retiring mayor, was re-elected unopposed. Temuka.—L. Robins was elected unopposed. The retiring mayor, W. M. McMillan. did not seek re-election Waimafe.—W. F. Boland, 'retiring mayor, was returned unopposed. Westport. Borough and county elections proved interesting. In the borough, Mr J. M. Robertson was returned unopposed as mayor, and the council was elected in the following order- C Howard. G. Mockelt. S. Jenkins, J. Kilkenny, Rev. A. McNeur. J. Fairbairn, A. Ridsdale, C. Thomas, R. Roberts! For the Buller Hospital Board the successful candidates were: Mrs C. Robertson (mayoress), Mrs Ridsdale, and W. E. L. Gay (borough), J. Ward, Mrs Tyler, J. Dowgray, Hon. W. H. McIntyre, M.L.C., and J. Niven (county). In the riding elections, J. Dowgray, a director of the Bank of New Zealand, the Hon. Mclntyre, and J. Niven, former members, were all defeated for seats on the Buller County Council, but were elected to the hospital board. Successful candidates for the county were; W. H. Gourley, S. R. Johnston, 1. Tyler, F. Connew, J. Ward, M. Durk.n, L). J. Archer. Three of the success candidates for borough council —all three former members —were nominees of the Labour Party.

Gceymouih.—District election results were: Greymouth: Mayoralty, F. A. Kitchingham (unopposed): Hokitika: Mayoralty, A. P. Elcock (unopposed). Runanga: E. W. Kennedy (unopposed). Ross: K. O. May defeated J. Holmes. Kumara: No nominations, and only one tor the council. Polling was not heavy for the Greymouth Borough Council. Four Labour, four Citizens, and one Independent were elected. For the Grey County Council the extended franchise resulted in only one change. On the Grey Harbour Board there were three changes, and on the Grey Power Board four, one employee being elected. P. Blanchticld headed the Greymouth Council , and Power Board polls, and Mrs D. Parfitt headed the Greymouth Hospital Board poll. On the Hokitika Borough Council there are five new members, and on the Westland County Council, four.

New Plymouth.—Candidates nominated by the New Plymouth Labour Party for the borough council. New Plymouth Harbour Board, and the Taranaki Hospital Board, failed to gain a single seat.

Citizens’ tickets being returned in all cases. Patea.—The contest for the mayoralty regarded as a Labour stronghold, had a surprise result, the sitting mayor. F. Ramsbottom. defeating the Labour candidate. A. H. Langslow. who contested the Patea seat at the general election, by 378 votes to 238. Party politics entered little into tne elections in any other parts of Taranaki. Hawera.—The mayoralty resulted: L. H. Clapham. the sitting mayor, 1336 votes: E. H. Linnell, 412. The mayors of the other Taranaki boroughs were returned unopposed. Picton.—Mayoralty: Williams (I.). 407; Davies (L.), 244. Council, in order of polling: Mears, Townsend. Cornish, Whiting, Hodgson, Buttenvorth, Kenny, Young. Greig (elected); Corrigan. Broadbent. Smith, Baxter. Blenheim.—Mr C. T. Smith was re- I elected mayor unopposed. Those elected councillors were Wicks (C.), 1303; ! Invercargill,—Abraham Wachner was elected mayor of Invercargill defeating A. W. Jones by 7321 votes to 2270. The referendum held on the proposal of the Invercargill Licensing Trust to establish liquor premises in the suburbs resulted in electors favouring the proposal by 5244 votes to 4212. Gore.—The sitting mayor. D. D. Shelton, was defeated by A. T. Newman, bV 1098 votes to 900. Carterton.—The sitting mayor. D. U'. Taverner, beat T. H. Callingham by 500 votes. Eketahuna.—Mayoralty: O. Walton bea*. D. H. Butcher by 142 votes. Dannevirke.—Mayoralty: E. Gibbard ! was re-elected unopposed.
