HOPE-RANZAU WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
The April meeting of the Hope Ranzau W.I. was opened with the singing of the Ode followed by the reciting of the Aspiration. Mrs Johnston, president, welcomed two visitors and also Mrs Tanner, the demonstrator for the i meeting. Apologies were received from j several members and sympathetic re- j ference was made to two who are ! sick. The Dominion president’s letter was: read and correspondence dealt with, i The agenda and remits for the forthcoming Council meeting were read, j and two delegates. Mrs Schroder and : Miss Max were chosen. The motto was “an Easter message j of goodwill.” The roll call “A Gift for j a Soldier’s Parcel” was well i - esponded to. A letter was read thanking members for a previous parcel which had arrived safely at its destination overseas. A further supply of khaki wool was given out and finished garments received. An interesting demonstration of pok- i er work, ably given by Mrs Tanner. \ of Richmond, was enthusiastically re- • ceived and thanks and appreciation j were expressed by the president. A posy of flowers was presented to Mrs j Tanner by the Gardening Circle. Afternoon tea was dispensed by the j hostesses, Mesdames Thom ar\d Hay- j There were more entries than usual j in the cut bloom and decorative com- j petitions and some exquisite blooms j were exhibited. Prize winners were: Cut bloom. Mrs Ching 1. Mrs Haycock \ 2, Miss Challies 3; vase of flowers, Mrs Ching 1. Mrs McDowell 2. Mrs Shirtcliff 3: bscuits. Mrs Shirtcliff 1. Mrs Thom 2, Mrs McDowell 3. The singing of the National Anthem closed ths meeting.
