WHITE BUTTERFLIES
PLAGUE IN N.S.W
Sydney, Feb 5 A plague of white butterflies is reported throughout New South Wales. The caterpillars of the butterfly are destroying large quantities of cabbages, cauliflowers, and other leaf vegetables.' The pest first invaded Australia about five years ago, some time after its ravages had been felt in New Zealand. During the past three years it has shown a considerable increase in New South Wales. An agent for defence foodstuffs said that in some areas the butterflies had blanketed the cabbage crops ruining them within a couple of days
