UNITED STATES AWARD
AIR COMMODORE WALLINGFORD Wellington, This Day. The United States Legion of Merit (Degree cf Officer) has been conferred on Air Commodore Wallingford, R.N.Z.A.F., son of Major J. A. Wallingford, Auckland. The citation has not yet been j-eceived in New Zealand, but it is understood the honour was awarded to Wallingford in recognition of his services in organising the R.N.Z.A.F. in the South Pacific area and of li e assistance rendered by him to the l i ted States commander of aircraft in iioulh Pacific force to whose staff ■ was attached from November, 1942, i- - ’ lust month, when he returned to Nt-w Zealand to take up his present appointment of Air Officer commanding the northern group. In the last war Air Commodore Wallingford saw service with the mercantile marine, the British an:.: and the Royal Air Force. He has t! uished himself as a crack rifle s. Born in England in 1898 Wallii: j. >. ;l came to New Zealand at the age of 13 and was educated at Auckland Grammar School.
