INVERCARGILL LICENSING

RECOUNT UNLIKELY TO CHANGE POSITION Invercargill, Jan. 11. The magisterial recount of the votes cast m the Invercargill licensing poll will begin at the Courthouse on Thursday morning before Mr Abernethy. b.M. It is not known for certain how mng the recount will last, but it may extend over two days. The recount will apply only to civilian votes. In the case of soldiers’ votes, a certificate from the Chief Elecoral Officer, Wellington, giving the result of the soldiers’ votes cast, for the Invercargill licensing issue must be accepted. Though the possibility of a major discrepancy cannot be ruled out. 11 ls thought unlikely that any such discrepancy will be discovered. The official count was carried out carefully and the gures thoroughly checked. If there is any change made in the figures of the official count, the most likely cause is e admission of votes by the magistrate ■iat the returning officer has rejected, or the rejection of votes that the returning officer has admitted—P.A.
