RADIO AMATEURS

WORK IN WAR EFFORT CONFERENCE OF TRANSMITTERS’ ASSOCIATION The annual conference of the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters (Inc.) was held in Wellington recently, says a report issued to the Press. The post-war activities of the association and its internal organisation were discussed at length. In a rearrangement of affiliation for branches or clubs, the society has decided to abolish the system of a branch in each city and to encourage as many radio clubs as possible, each club to be affiliated with headquarters through a licensed amateur operator appointed by the club to act as headquarters representative or (where no club was formed) a representative appointed by headquarters. Great difficulty was being experienced in obtaining addresses of members serving with the forces and all members were asked to assist in obtaining these addresses. It would then be possible to forward the Association’s magazine "Break In” to many members overseas Mention was made of the work being done by the amateurs in the war effort both in a civilian capacity and with the forces. Many amateurs whose only knowledge of radio was through their hobby were now holding important positions in signals and allied branches of the forces in New Zealand and overseas. A letter was read from the Post and Telegraph Department stating its attitude towards amateur activities after the war. The meeting unanimously decided to offer the department any assistance which it would require from the association. A request was made for enquiries to be made with the Post and Telegraph and Public Works Departments as to whether the Limited Wiremen’s Examination required by the Public Works Department could be conducted in conjunction the Post and Telegraph Department’s examination when the monthly examinations for amateur licenses were re-commenced after the The officers for the following year were elected as follows: President, Mr C. Liddell (ZL2BI); secretary, Mr D. Gorman (ZL2IY); treasurer, Mr B. Lough (ZI2OG).
