SWIMMING
CARNIVAL AT MUNICIPAL BATHS TO-NIGHT An excellent exhibition of swimming and diving should be witnessed by those attending to-night’s swimming carnival. The Nelson representative team which leaves on Friday for th e National Championships at Auckland, will be seen at the height of their form. Misses M. Nisbet and J. Carpenter, of Nelson, and Mr L. Plowman, of Auckland, who is a trainee at the local air station, will give a special exhibition of fancy diving, diving simultaneously from separate boards. Bright interludes will be provided by the Krazy Kaper troupe of acrobats. This should prove to be the finest display of diving and acrobalics ever witnessed locally. Other interesting events are a chalenge relay for four-men teams drawn from the various sections of the local Air Fo- Station, and a similar challenge event between the local club and the Air Force. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Reports to hand indicate that the championship meeting at Auckland on the 19th, °oth, and 22nd January will be one of the most successful ever held, representative teams are being sent from all centres and Otago and Southland will be particularly strongly r presented. The meeting is being held in u.e large Olympic pool at Newmarket, the only bath of this kind in New Zealand. It is 55 yards long and has large seating accommodation. It is expected that the main events will be broadcast. The Nelson representative team now consists of 14 members as follows: Senior Ladies: Misses J. Carpenter, M. Nisbet, E. Nisbet. N. Dixon. U. Walker, N. Gibbs. Intermediate Boys: P. Kotua, D. Field, R. Methven. Intermediate Girls: Misses J. Harris, J. Hurst. ’I. Smith. J. Kotua. Junior Boys: B. Coleman. The team will be in charge of Mr T. Carpenter and Miss E. Stewart as manager and chaperone.
