There are 544 singles entries divided into 76 sections, 38 of which will be played to-morrow and the remainder on Thursday. The fours commence on Monday. Considerably more than 500 bowlers from outside Dunedin will participate and several hundred have had to be billeted privately. Many past champions are competing, but only five in the singles, namely Rigbv (1922), Clarke (1927), Lambeth (1930), Deare (1940), and the present champion. Spearman. A southerly buster on Sunday night, followed by rain yesterday, broke a long spell of warm weather, but to-day is calm and fine with good promise for to-morrow and the greens are all in fine running order.
