A TAKAKA SAILOR HONOURED
Petty Officer B Hambrook was entertained at Takaka by the Presentation Committee at a well-attended dance. Music was supplied by Mrs V. Page and Mr G. Page, while Mr H. Nees acted as M.C.
Farewell wishes, accompanied by a gift, were expressed to Petty Officer Hambrook by Mr N. Bensemann, chairman of the Town Board. Mr A. H. Rose, County Chairman, and Mr J. Vaughan, chairman of the local R.S.A. The latter speaker made a presentation on behalf of the Odd Fellows’ JLodge, of which the guest-of-honour was a keen member. Mr N Bensemann, when presenting a farewell pift from the Citizens’ Band, mentioned that citizens should be proud of their Band’s war record as, out of the seven members who had gone overseas, two had been killed and one was a prisoner-of-war.
Petty Officer Hambrook. who was greeted with musical honours, suitably replied.
