BOLIVIAN REVOLUTION
BELIEVED ENGINEERED BV AXIS STATEMENT BY MR HULL Washington, Jan. S* Information now available here in* creasingly strengthens the belief that forces outside Bolivia and unfriendly to the defence of the American republics inspired and aided the Bolivian revolution. said the United States Secretary of State. Mr Hull, in a statement. He added that the present consultation between 19 American countries concerning the origin of the revolution will soon permit each Government to reach its own conclusions. The United Press correspondent says that though Mr Hull had not identified the forces, it was suspected that the revolution was engineered with the aid of the Axis forces in Argentina, the only country to recognise the new Bolivian regime. Mr Hull’s statement indicated that 19 governments had already agreed to withhold recognition from Bolivia, says the “New York Times” Washington correspondent. Furthermore ,it is understood he may take action toward further isolating Argentina. If economic pressure is brought to bear against Argentina, British collaboration is necessary because of the strong trade connections. This is believed to have been the subject of a conference to-day attenaea by Mr Hull, Mr Morgenthau, Mr Rowley. Lord Halifax and Mr Ben Smith, chairman of the British Supply Council.
