A NELSON CHRONOLOGY 9th January, 1844: Another party started for the Wairau by the Pelorus and Kaituna Pass. The party consisted of Messrs Drake and Bishop and a Maori—one of the nearly extinct tribe of Rhangitanis. who professes to be well acquainted with the route. —"Nelson Examiner.” Association of Original Landholders formed. —“Nelson Examiner.”
