LATE REV. G. STUART KING
PRESBYTERIAN MINISTER AT MOTUEKA The late Rev. George Stuart King, of Motueka, was born at Dalkeith. Scotland. He received his early education at the schools of his native town and afterwards proceeded to Edinburgh University, taking the course of study prescribed for the ministry of the Presbyterian Church. After finishing his course he married Miss Helen Stuart, of Marnock, Banffshire, Scotland, and with his young bride came to New Zealand in 1903 to enter the ministry of the Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Mr King was called to the Mount Pleasant charge in South Canterbury where he remained until the outbreak of the Great War when he left New Zealand as Chaplain to the Forces with the Main Body of the First N.Z.E.F. He saw much active service, including the Gallipoli campaign. After the war, in 1919, Mr King visited South Africa and later Australia, showing particular interest in educational matters. During his ministry in New Zealand Mr King served the church in Pleasant Point, and in the parishes of Landsdown, Wanganui East. Middlemarch and Motueka. Mr King leaves a widow and five children—Mr Robert King (Wairarapa), Mr Alex King (a surgeon with the Forces in Great Britain), Mrs H. L. Matthew (Wellington), Mrs J. H. Wells (Wanganui) and Miss Beatrice King (with the R.N.Z.A.F. at Ashburton).
