BRITISH FREIGHTER SUNK
TORPEDOED OFF INDIAN COAST SURVIVORS MACHINE-GUNNED BY JAPS (Rec. 1.0 p.m.) Ne w Delhi, Jan. 7. Sixteen British and Indian merchant seamen have reached the shore. They are survivors of a crew of 72, many of whom were drowned when a Japanese submarine rammed their boats after sinking a freighter off the Indian coast. One survivor said the submarine, after sinking the ship, began methodically ramming and machine-gunning the men in the boats and on rafts.
