KAIWARRA SOLD FOR £525

Christchurch, July 3. The steamer Kaiwarra (built by J.’ Blumer and Company, Sunderland, in 1919, at a cost between £70,000 and £100,000), which ran ashore and became a wreck at Motunau, North Canterbury, on 3rd December, and which is now firmly aground, was disposed of at public auction yesterday for the sum of £525 to Mr P. Lucas, of Christchurch. The cargo of Newcastle coal, originally estimated to be 5000 tons, was sold to Mr L. E. Edwards, of Hornby, for £SO.
