OBITUARY

MRS EMILY MALLE j By the deat\ of Mrs Emily Maule, > which occurred recently, Rai Valley j has lost a highly respected pioneer | settler, who. with her parents, Mr and Mrs Charles Turner, came to live in Rai Valley in May. 1881, at the age of ten years. She was born in Auckland on 2nd January, 1881. and when only a few weeks old was brought by her mother on horseback over the Maungatapu. Mr Turner on foot, leading the horse to their home, which was then in the Pelorus Valley. The first bride in the Rai Valley, she married Mr Alexander Maule in 1893, the ceremony taking place in the Canvastown church. They first began farm- ; ing in the Pelorus Sounds, and after a year or two returned to take up a ! farm in Rai Valley, where they coni tinued to live up to the present time. 1 She was predeceased by her husband j six years ago, but continued to carry jon the farm under great difficulties until her health broke down. She enI dured mu?h suffering with true courage and her fine qualities were admiried by all who knew her. She is , mourned by two daughters and one ; son. and she will be missed by a. large J circle of friends. MRS J. E. McNEE j There recently passed away in Greyj mouth, an old and highly respected •Murchison resident in the person of ! Mrs Jessie Ellen Me Nee—widow of Mr A. R. McNee. who for ipany years was in business in Murchison and who | founded the .storekeeping business of McNee and Co. The late Mrs McNee was born at Pidgeon Bay, Canterbury, j and was the fourth daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Robinson Hunter who were farming for many years at Fern I Flat. Mrs McNee was of a retiring dis- ■ position, kind, and helpful to everyone tand most highly esteemed. She is i survived by three sisters and one i brother. Mesdames Bradley and Cowan jand Mr Jim Hunter. Greymouth. and j Mrs A. Spiers. Kumara. Two sisters, Mrs E. White, Murchison and Mrs Hari court. Hokitika and Mr W. R. Hunter. | brother, lately predeceased Mrs McNee. I The funeral took place at Bromley ! Cemetery, Christchurch.
