FRENCH FORCES IN N. AFRICA

REQUEST BY GEN. EISENHOWER (Rec. 12.30 p.m.) Rugby, July 1. Mr Churchill said he considered it desirable that General Giraud should remain in control of the French Forces. General Eisenhower had asked General Giraud and General de Gaulle for an assurance that there would be no change in the army at the present time. It was emphasised that it was not the Allies’ policy to take sides in the controversy and that the request was made on military grounds.—P.A.
