A.T.S. OFFICERS

JUNIOR STAFF APPOINTMENTS (Rec. 9.55 a.m.) London, June 30. Auxiliary territorial service officers intensively trained for staff duties are now replacing army male officers in junior staff appointments in static formations of the home forces. Staff Appointments affected by the new policy are of third grade, carrying the rank of captain or in the A.T.S. df junior commander. It is intended later to grant second-grade appointments carrying the rank of major or senior commander. Women officers will take a seven weeks’ course, candidates’ ages ranging from 20 to 40, with an average of 25. They have an average of 20 months’ commissioned service. It is hoped women will be the answer to the Army’s junior staff officer problem.— P.A. Special Correspondent.
